In the slide grinding process, workpiece surfaces can be burnished. Surface roughness is hereby purposefully reduced.

In this process – similar to slide grinding – material roughness is removed from the surface. Material removal, however, is most often much more intensive, so that less surface roughness is achieved. As a rule, the abrasive media used for burnishing and shining are less abrasive, and longer processing times are applied.
